“Waste tires are not wasted tires,” says Mr Malefane Ts’ephe, the National University of Lesotho (NUL) graduate who believes car tires’ fate should not be the dumpsites in the first place. “We are making a whole new business out of waste tires, ” he says. 

So his company is called Moss Tire Upcyclers. “We take what would otherwise be hopelessly abandoned tires and transform them into great products.” He makes arm chairs, he makes pool chairs, he makes stools and he makes couches, out of waste tires.

When the National University of Lesotho (NUL)’s newest company, Phula Poultry Products, released its first 1000 chickens last week, something unexpected happened. “The chickens were swept away by adoring buyers in just two days,” said a smiling NUL’s Dr George Adoko and his assistant, Mr Mahlaha Mahlaha, the animal scientists literal...ly consumed by a thirst for action.

Dr Makhamisa Senekane, a lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) Department of Physics and Electronics is assessing a new way of bullet-proofing your online information to ensure it is save. When you send sensitive information online, such as banking information, there is a way to hide that information from crooks....

“However,” he says, “some methods of hiding information (encryption) are very difficult to bullet-proof. That is why we are assessing a new way of bullet-proofing the security of your online experience.”

“That we are developing our own version of computerised fleet management system here in Lesotho is good,” says Nyakallo Moleko, a Computer Systems and Networks Engineering student at the National University of Lesotho (NUL). Those days in which we had to cross the border, at a high cost, in search of similar solutions, are getting numbered.
