BOLEPO TEA MADE FROM MAIZE SILK ADVANCES TO THE NUL INNOVATION HUB

The National University of Lesotho (NUL) Innovation Hub is happy to introduce another milestone, an amazing tea by Joalane Mohale and ‘Matsomoli Mokhele, the NUL graduates. The Hub is now incubating Bolepo tea. It is a delicious and healing tea made from maize silk (Bolepo ba poone).

It was first developed by NUL students, commercialised outside NUL, and made its way to the NUL Innovation Hub. The hub is now preparing it for large scale commercial production.

“It is a tea that combines taste and medicinal properties in one package,” ‘Matsomoli Mokhele said.

CELEBRATING 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE NUL INNOVATION HUB

Exactly 1 year ago in this day,14th November, 2018, the National University of Lesotho Innovation (NUL) Hub was launched by His Majesty the King. A year later, the Hub is continuing to make waves across the country.

The approach is simple: Effectiveness, Concentration, Simplicity. We make soaps before vaccines, we grow trees before we make heart transplants, we make biscuits before we make self-driving cars and we grow tea before we go to the moon.

The hub aims to achieve a few things, perhaps just one. It seeks to be a catalyst for job creation in Lesotho

“MANY BASOTHO NAMES COME IN OPPOSITES,” SAYS NUL LINGUIST

Dr ‘Masechaba Mokhathi-Mbhele, the National University of Lesotho (NUL) linguist and the author of the book “Sesotho Personal Names as Minimal Pairs”, argues that Basotho have a tendency to give personal names that come in opposites to their children (she calls these names Lihanani (opposites) and she has a ton of examples to prove it.

"HAMBA KAHLE PROFESSOR 'MANTHOTO LEPHOTO," SAY THE INNOVATORS OF THE ROMA VALLEY. "YOU HAVE BEEN TOO GOOD TO US."

Professor Lephoto has just ended her enventful tenure both as the Pro Vice Chancellor of the esteemed National University of Lesotho (NUL) and, recently, as the acting Vice Chancellor. Her achievements are numerous, but the Innovators of the Roma Valley will remember her for the role both she and the former Vice Chancellor Professor Nqosa Mahao played in advancing the dream of innovation at the NUL.

A loving mother at heart, she will always be remembered for her gentleness even when dealing with tough issues.

“ITS TIME TO BRING BACK “KHOTLA” TO ITS RIGHTFUL POSITION,” SAYS NUL LAW LECTURER

The “Khotla” system of justice long practised by Basotho has so many good features over the Western system that it must be brought back, (mayibuye)! That is according to Dr Letzadzo Kometsi, the National University of Lesotho (NUL) Law scholar and "Khotla" enthusiast.

“Scholars in the West are beginning to study and call for implementation of some features of “Khotla,”” he said.

ANALYTICAL MODEL FOR MULTIPROCESSOR WITH PROVITE CACHES AND SHARED MEMORY

INT J COMPUT COMMUN, Vol 3, No 2

Professor Angel Vassilev Nikolov, National University of Lesotho

Abstract

We develop an analytical model of multiprocessor with private caches and shared memory and obtain the following results: the instantaneous state probabilities and the steady-state probabilities of the system. Both transient behaviour and equilibrium can be studied and analyzed. We showed that results can be applied to determine the output parameters for both blocking and non-blocking caches.

GROUP ANALYSIS OF A GENERALIZED KDV EQUATION

Professor Motlatsi Molati, National University of Lesotho (Appl. Math. Inf. Sci. 8, No. 6, 2845-2848)

Abstract

In this work the Korteweg-de Vries equation which contains an arbitrary function in the nonlinear term is considered and it is referred to as a generalized KdV. This equation has applications in nonlinear solitary wave phenomena in some areas of fluid mechanics, plasma physics and quantum mechanics. The Lie group analysis approach is employed to obtain the possible forms of the arbitrary parameter.
